What is the Army’s NCODE Pilot Program?

The Army’s Next-Generation Commercial Operations in Defended Enclaves (NCODE) pilot program is designed to help eligible small businesses simplify their path toward DFARS cybersecurity compliance by connecting them with government-contracted, verified External Service Providers (VESPs) that help protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). NCODE is building a marketplace of vetted VESPs offering small businesses a standardized and streamlined pathway to compliance.

Why Did the Army Create the NCODE Pilot Program?

The U.S. Department of War (DoW) has identified cybersecurity as a top priority to protect sensitive information and enhance the security of the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). Many small businesses within the DIB face significant challenges meeting these requirements because of cost, complexity, and limited in-house expertise.

To address these challenges, the U.S. Army and other DoW organizations funded the NCODE pilot to create a standardized, cost-effective pathway for small businesses to achieve NIST SP 800-171 compliance through a marketplace of verified External Service Providers offering pre-configured solutions.

What is a Verified External Service Provider (VESP)?

A verified External Service Provider (VESP) is a trusted, government-contracted, vetted cybersecurity provider supporting the Army’s NCODE pilot. VESPs offer standardized cybersecurity solutions designed to reduce the cost, complexity, and administrative burden associated with meeting DFARS cybersecurity requirements. David T Scott & Associates (DTS) is one of the Army-contracted, vetted VESPs listed for the NCODE pilot.
